ECKERT CRUISES TO FIRST BAMA BASH VICTORY

Glencoe, AL (March 1, 2004) – Rick Eckert of York, PA, used his front-row starting spot to cruise to his first Bama Bash victory in front of a huge crowd in the 5th annual Bama Bash at Green Valley Speedway on a beautiful sunny Sunday Afternoon.

Eckert used his outside front-row starting spot to jump to the early lead over Clint Smith, Tim McCreadie, Billy Moyer & Ray Cook in the 75 lap main event.

The first caution of the race occurred on lap one for the defending Bama Bash Champion Terrance Nowell, who had spun in turn two.

As the field rolled under the green flag for the re-start, Cook made quick work of Moyer passing him on the bottom coming out of four to take over the fourth position, and put the pressure on NY’s McCreadie for third.

Eckert jumped out to a four-car length lead by lap twelve, when the second caution of the race flew for the stalled car of Marshall Green in turn four.

On the re-start, Eckert again jumped to the middle grove, and found it to his liking, cruising the rest of the way, leading wire to wire, for the win and the $15,000 payday.

“This track was one of the best I have seen for a daytime show,” stated an excited Eckert from victory lane. “The track was real good considering all the rain that has been down here this week.

Finishing second was Senoia GA’s Clint Smith, with third going to McCreadie. Fourth position went to the Dodge of Ray Cook with Billy Moyer rounding out the top five.

The sixth annual Bama Bash will be held at GVS next February 24th – 27th. The sixth edition of the great race will feature a 75-lap feature paying $16,000 to win.

Over 193 racecars and teams filled the pit areas on Saturday Morning with the headline being the Super LateModels with 69 cars. The sportsman division was not far behind, entering 60 racecars into the speedway. The modifieds gearing up for the $10,000 to win Southern Nationals had 31 cars with the Bomber class entering 33 racecars.

CHAD SMITH POCKETS $1,000 – Super LateModel driver Chad Smith picked up the $1,000 to win Super LateModel Non-Qualifiers feature on Sunday. Smith had the opportunity to take the $1,000 or forfeit his money and start at the tail of the Bash. Smith elected to take the $1,000 top prize and watch the twenty-four starters duke it out.

Stacy Holmes led the field for the first four circuits before breaking and having to retire from the event. Chuck Proctor then inherited the lead and led until lap twenty-one when a brush of the wall allowed Smith to take the top spot, lead the final four laps, and pick up the win in the twenty-five-lap race.

OGLE CLAIMS $2,000 SPORTSMAN PAYCHECK – Richard Ogle had a great weekend of racing at the Valley, picking up Fast Time Honors on Saturday along with a Saturday Night heat race win and leading all fourty-laps of the feature to claim a clean sweep of action.

Brian Burke finished second with Brain Smith third. Fourth position went to two-time defending champion Jon Miller with Marcus Caswell rounding out the top five.

WAGSTER TAMES THE VALLEY – Missouri driver Jared Wagster rolled into GVS this past weekend hoping to get a little track time in for the $10,000 to win Southern Nationals coming up in just a couple of weeks. Not only did Wagster tame the valley, but led all twenty-five laps of the modified feature to claim the $1,500 top prize and hoping to back it up in just a few short weeks.

Wagster now has a guaranteed starting spot in the Southern Nationals feature, which was awarded to the victor of the Bash.

Jason Heitt claimed second position with Mark Haddon third. Randy Petro finished fourth with Bart Richardson rounding out the top five.

CHUMLEY WIRE-TO-WIRE FOR BOMBER WIN – Greg Chumley went wire-to-wire in the always-exciting Bomber Class to claim the Bama Bash Bomber Win.

GREEN VALLEY ANNOUNCES BAMA BASH QUALIFYING FORMAT

Glencoe, AL (February 13, 2004) – Green Valley Speedway officials have announced the qualifying format for both the Super LateModels & the Sportsman division for the fifth annual Bama Bash coming February 26th – 29th.

Popular to most fans and drivers in the Mississippi area, Green Valley will adapt the Columbus Speedways’ format for qualifying.

Cars will qualify in groups. The fastest group will be lined-up for the first heat, with the second fastest group in the second heat, etc. ( I.E. – If the fourth group is the fastest, everybody in group four will be lined-up in the first heat.)

“This keeps the competition more even. If the track is faster in the beginning or the end of qualifying, at least all the cars who drew late or early aren’t at the front of the heats, just because they drew a lucky number,” stated GVS Owner Bill TenEyck. “It’s been a popular format in Mississippi, and many drivers have asked us about using this format, so that is what we will do.”

The Sportsman drivers will use the same format for their qualifying and lining up of heat races.
